Syllabus

All of our class expectations can be found in the syllabus given to students on the first day of school.

Click here (English 2) or here (English 2 Honors) to view or download an extra copy of the syllabus. Students and parents are responsible for knowing all of the information in the syllabus. Any additional questions can be directed to me via e-mail.

REMIND APP

Remind is a wonderful app that allows teachers to send reminders and announcements to students and parents via text messaging or email. Teacher phone numbers are never visible to students, and student phone numbers are never visible to teachers, making Remind safe on both sides. To register for my announcements via Remind, please send a text message to 81010 with the message @e2192 (English 2) or @e2h192 (English 2 Honors) for students. You may unsubscribe at any time by replying "unsubscribe." You do not have to download the app to receive announcements. I strongly recommend students sign up for Remind. Remember, these messages do come in as text messages, so please keep your texting plan in mind when signing up.

A lack of a Remind notification is not an excuse for missing work; these messages are sent as a courtesy only.

Grades

Grades can be accessed via ClassLink. Students log in with their student ID and school password.  Website: https://launchpad.classlink.com/santarosa
Once you are in Class Link and you can see all of the apps- click on Student/parent portal.
Students' new e-mail is their ID number @students.santarosa.k12.fl.us
Example: 5555555555@students.santarosa.k12.fl.us

If a grade column is blank or has a "?", then I have not entered grades for that assignment yet; there is nothing you need to do at this point. A "Z" instead of a grade indicates the assignment is missing due to an absence and can be made up according to the make up work policy; this will average into your grade as a zero until the new grade is entered. A "NG" indicates you are exempt from the assignment; exemptions are rarely given. If you have a question about your grade, please talk to me about it either before or after class or e-mail me.

Absent?

I typically post the week's agenda on the board every Monday. I may also post important due dates on the homepage of this website. I also use the Remind app. It is always the student's responsibility to listen in class, read the schedule and boards, and write down due dates in their daily planner. If you are planning an absence, you need to complete work early and possibly take the test or turn in the essay early. If you are unexpectedly absent, the traditional 3-day make-up policy applies, with the exception of pre-announced assignments. To be clear, if I announce an essay is due on Friday, and you are absent Friday, the essay will be due the minute you return to my class. You do not get the three days if you already knew the deadline. You will need to make up quizzes and tests with me from 8-8:30 AM or during another class period with that teacher's e-mailed permission.  Remember: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ask for and turn in your makeup work. I will not ask for it, and if I put in a "zero" after three days, you can not turn it in.

Students will find the book on their own (school library, public library, amazon, book store, etc.) and read it. It is up to students and parents to gauge the maturity of the student before choosing a novel which may contain mature themes or language. To receive the extra credit, they will have to complete a test or writing assignment with the book. This must be done before school from 8-8:30 AM or during another class period with that teacher's e-mailed permission. This must be scheduled in ADVANCE.

Only ONE book may be read for extra credit each nine weeks. This will count as an additional test grade.
